The damping device is for a rotor rotating around an axis in a housing and involves two bearings at the two axis ends. One axis end has a first magnetic bearing which is located opposite to a second magnetic bearing. A magnetic field is formed between the bearings which permits the adjstment and alignment of the first bearing. A second magnetic bearing supported on elastic and sprung bendable damping devices permits the damping of the elastic displacement movements of the first bearing. At least the second bearing comprises a min. of two magnets. These are formed as ring units, the counter poles being located opposite each other.
