Lathe for machining end faces of hollow work - has internally expanding chucks and sets of tool slides operable at both ends

The lathe is used for the machining of ends of a workpiece which lie on a common axis. The lathe consists of a machine bed with two chuck heads (2, 3) with internal chucks mounted opposite one another. The workpiece (4) is centralised and clamped in the chucks. One or two tool slides with tool holders are mounted on the machine bed. The tools are moved at right angles to the centreline of the workpiece to machine the end faces. Support blocks (7) are mounted under the workpiece which are used to support the workpiece while it is being mounted in the chucks.
