Rapid slag removal from molten iron or steel in ladle - using scrubbing gas, synthetic slag powder, and a scraper

Scrubbing gas acts on the surface of the bath on the raised side of the vessel so the slag is swept towards the lower side and in front of the scraper. The gas is pref. bubbled through the melt via an injection brick in the vessel or a lance. A powder with compsn. 70-85% SiO2, 10-18% Al2O3, 3-8% K2O and 2-6% Na2O is pref. added to the surface of the bath during the deslagging operation. Used e.g. in ladle desulphurisation of crude iron or steel. As compared with conventional methods, more slag is removed in less time.
