摘要 1486114 Change speed control CHRYSLER UNITED KINGDOM Ltd 4 Feb 1976 [6 Feb 1975] 5158/75 Heading F2D A gear selector mechanism, particularly for the automatic transmission of a motor-vehicle, is controlled by a manual lever 10 secured to a pivot pin 15 to pivot in one plane, and the lever has a transverse push button 52, depression of which cams down an internal spring-loaded rod 38, disengaging a detent pawl 43 carried thereby from a notched quadrant 45 and coupling the lever 10 positively to the welded boss 28 of an arm 30 linked to the gear selector. Prior to such action the coupling allows limited movement of the selector relative to the lever 10. In Figs. 1 and 2 the coupling is a ball 37 pressed outwardly, to the lost-motion position shown, by a spring 36 reacting on a looselyfitting plunger 35 in a diametral bore 34 of the pin 15, and registering radial bores in the boss 28 of the gear selector arm 30. In the position shown, with the detent pawl 43 engaging the quadrant 45, the ball 37 lies only partly in the pin bore 34, thereby allowing lost motion and hence the limited independent movement of the selector arm 30, whereas, when depressed by the push button 52, the ball diameter occupies the junction of the pin and boss bores, effecting positive coupling with no lost motion. The pivot pin 15 turns in a bracket formed by spaced parts 22 to which the quadrant 45 is bolted. In Fig. 3, not shown, the coupling ball and plunger are replaced by a single cylindrical plunger (55) secured to the rod 38 and having a waisted portion which permits lost motion in the button-released position, whilst in Fig. 4, not shown, such a plunger has a coned end permitting lost motion. The quadrant notches 44 may be inclined on one side to permit free movement towards neutral and park settings which latter have non-inclined locating notches, whilst in Fig. 5, not shown, all the notches are non-inclined.
