Plastic, wooden or metal guard for hob of built-in cooker consists at the front and sides of a solid plate attached to the hob by mechanical fasteners (2), pref. around the outside of the hob. The side walls may be secured only a third of the way along. The guard may include pins which rest flat on the work top, at the front and if required also at the sides, with screw clamps encompassing the work top and pins for mechanical attachment to the work top. The supporting surface of the guard on the work top may be widened (3) for increased stability. The guard has a height of at least 8 cm, and is rounded off on all sides to prevent injury on sharp edges.
