1483550 Cutting tools K HERTEL 22 Sept 1975 [23 July 1975] 38857/75 Heading B3B A cutting tool comprises a holder 1 with a recess 2, a cutting bit 4 securable in the recess by a screw actuated clamping member 3, the cutting bit being of rhombic configuration in vertical cross-section with spaced apart top and bottom faces 7 and 13 respectively and connected by flank surfaces, a cutting edge 5 is formed by the intersection of the top face 7 and a flank surface 8. A pair of symmetrically positioned part cylindrical recesses are provided in the rear flank face 9 the bottom of the recesses being included at an acute angle to the bottom face 13 and at an obtuse angle to each other. The clamping member is provided with a pair of part cylindrical projections 18, 19 on its forward end which engage in the recesses in the cutting bit to hold the bit 4 in the recess in the holder when the clamp is secured by the screw member 35. The clamping member is also provided with a front surface 17 which abuts the rear flank surface 9 and also a spline projection 29 on its underside 27 which extends longitudinally of the clamp member in groove 40 in the bottom of the recess which maintains alignment of the clamp a heel portion 39 also being provided which is transverse to the spline 29 and contacts the bottom of the groove 40 and acts as a pivot in the clamping action of the clamp. A forward curved surface 21 is provided on the clamp member above the projections 18, 19 which acts as a chip controlling region when the cutting tool is in use. |
