A high strength, semi-killed, low alloy steel contains at least 0.02% V, 0.008-0.024% N, and the balance iron and unavoidable impurities. The amount of V and other elements which deoxidise the steel must be such that the steel is not killed and the V content should not exceed 0.2%. The steel may contain 0.15-0.50% C, 0.4-2.0% Mn, 0.02-0.2% V, 0.008-0.024% N, 0.07% max. Si, 0.25% Cd to improve the corrosion resistance of the steel, and the balance iron and unavoidable impurities. The steel may be normalised at 1700-1750 DEG F. |
