A polymer containing chains of -OCH 2 - or -SCH 2 - units is obtained by polymerizing an appropriate monomer in the presence of a mixture of titanyl and ferrous and/or ferric acetylacetonates. In examples, trioxan is homo- or co-polymerized with dioxan, 4-methyl- 1,3-dioxan, or dioxolan in bulk or in cyclohexane and trithiane is homopolymerized in biphenyl and the polythiomethylene purified with N- methyl-2-pyrolidone, benzene and acetone. |
