Recovering metals from rinsing water in electroplating plants - using row of ion exchange tanks which can be rapidly replaced

Device for recovering metals from the rinsing water used in electroplating plants, where the rinsing water is continuously fed through >=1 ion exchanger. The novelty is that >=1 ion exchanger uses a portable container fitted with connecting flanges. At least two ion exchangers are pref. located in a horizontal stack and preceded by a filter. Alternatively, >=2 exchanges are pref. located in a vertical stack through which the rinsing water flows upwards, the adjacent edges of the ion exchangers being provided with peripheral seals. The vertical stack is pref. clamped between two vertical rods to aoid leakage of the water. An indexing peg. is pref. used on the containers so that only the same type of exchangers can be assembled in the vertical stack, and a sensor employed to indicate when the first ion exchanger needs to be removed and replaced. Used for recovery of valuable metals in small or medium size electroplating plants and the prevention of contamination of the drain water and deposition of sludge. Provides easy removal of a container for regenerating the exchange material.
