The motor caravan expanding semi-monocoque construction allows for extra room to be made available as an option. The caravan can still be used in the non extended mode. A frame covers the gap between the extended sections and a furniture unit (26,27) is fitted to at least one of the half shells (6). In the inner position the half shells extend nearly to the outer wall (9) of the other half shell. The furniture unit consists of a U-shaped seat (26) with the legs of the U parallel to the vehicle sides. A central table (27) is provided to form a dinette. One of the half shells can have a shower and/or toilet compartment.
