Novel compounds being tautomers and having the general formulµ in which R 1 , R 2 , R 3 and R 4 are H, halo, C 1-7 alkyl, C 1-7 alkoxy, OH or CF 3 and R 5 and R 6 are H or alkyl are prepared by treating a compound III with a reducing agent followed by formation of an acid addition salt if desired. Intermediates isolated are 2-benzoyl-benzaldehyde, prepared by oxidation of 2-hydroxymethyl - benzhydrol; 2,3 - dihydro - 5 - phenyl- 5H-imidazo-[2,1-a]-isoindole sulphate, prepared from the first named intermediate and ethylene diamine; and 2-(2-benzoylphenyl)-2-imidazoline, prepared from the previous-named compound by ring opening and oxidation. Pharmaceutical compositions comprise a compound I or II in conjunction with a suitable carrier or diluent, are administred orally or parenterally and are useful as psychostimulants.</p> |
