The assembly of a mechanical roller type counter for use in instruments and its assembly in a front panel is simplified to eliminate any axial play. The counter rollers (5) carrying display numbers that are viewed through an aperture in a cabinet front panel (2) are located on a single shaft (7) fixed at one end (16) and freely supported in a bearing block (3) at the other. A similar shaft support is provided for the transfer sprockets (6) between counter rollers. The input (12) is transmitted over a reduction gear (9,10) mounted on the main bracket (1c). The complete assembly is located behind the front panel with tabs (3a,1e) locating in slots.
