<p>The machine driven by compressed air consists of a number of arms (3) pivoting on to a common shaft (5). Each arm (3) carries a balloon (2) at one end, which is swung downwards into the water in the tank (4). An electromagnetic valve mounted in a pipe which connects an air compressor (12) to the balloon (2) is then: automatically opened so that the balloon is inflated and lifts the arm upwards. The other end of the arm carries a pneumatic jack (6): which extends a toothed quadrant (8) so that it meshes with a gear wheel (9) which drives the shaft (10) and gear wheel (11). The quadrant (8) only engages the wheel (9) on its downward stroke and is disengaged on its upward stroke.</p> |
