PURPOSE:To maintain a certain alpha-conversion condition and prepare alpha-starch having uniform quality by attaching a device for removing excess heat accumulated, to a device for pressing raw starch particles having a specific water content to convert the raw starch into the alpha-starch due to the heat generated by the consolidation of the raw starch and for continuously forming and extruding the alpha-starch. CONSTITUTION:In a device for feeding raw starch particles D containing 5-40wt.% of water into a hopper 4 from the upper opening 44 thereof, continuously pressing the raw starch between rolls 1A and 1B rotated in the mutually reverse directions, converting the raw starch into alpha-starch due to the heat generated with the consolidation of the raw starch and continuously extruding the alpha-starch alpha-D, a cooling medium is flowed into a cooling medium chamber 51 inside of a screw 5 in a hopper 4, into a cooling chamber 31 in a pressure chamber 2 below the hopper 4 and into cooling medium chambers 12A and 12B in a pair of rolls 1A and 1B, respectively, for removing excess heat to provide the objective starch. |
