PURPOSE:To improve sliding noise and whitening of a head and to maintain still durability and electrical characteristics by constituting a magnetic layer of at least two layers on a nonmagnetic supporting body in a manner that the lower layer has larger Young's modulus than the upper layer and the Young's modulus of the lower layer has a specified value or more. CONSTITUTION:On a nonmagnetic supporting body 1 comprising polyethylene terephthalate, etc., the first magnetic layer 2 and the second magnetic layer 4 are successively formed, and a back coating layer 3 is provided on the other side of the supporting body opposite to the magnetic layers. The Young's modulus of the lower layer 2 is specified as high as >=800 kg/mm<2>, while the upper layer 4 is made to have smaller Young's modulus than the lower layer 2. By this method, the total Young's modulus of the medium becomes enough so that sliding noise and whitening of a head can be reduced. Moreover, the surface of the medium 4 (upper magnetic layer) has proper hardness to maintain still durability and electrical characteristics of the medium. |
