1473731 Making electrical connections FIAT SpA 30 July 1974 [21 Sept 1973] 33650/74 Heading B3A [Also in Division H2] A method of connecting a terminal 16 to an insulated wire f4 of a cable 10 having a plurality of wires f1-fn, the wires being held together by an outer insulating cover, comprises baring one end of the wire f4, removing a part of the outer cover at a point intermediate its length, placing a conductive element which is to form the terminal adjacent the wires of the cable at this point, surrounding a part of the element and the wires with a hardenable, conductive liquid, applying a voltage across the wire f4 and the element which is increased until it breaks down the insulation of the wire causing perforations to be formed in it so that the conductive liquid contacts the core of the wire f4, and subsequently hardening the conductive liquid. The hardenable, conductive liquid may be a resin containing silver and graphite or a tin-based solder. The voltage is applied by a battery 24 through resistors 26, 30 and it increases until the breakdown of the wire insulation occurs whereupon a capacitor 28 discharges and the voltage falls rapidly. |
