The viscometer is of the falling ball type which is suitable for use in pipe systems. It comprises an inclined tube (3) connected at its lower end to a pipe system introducing a liquid at its upper end to a pipe system (2) which allows the liquid to escape. Two sensors (1) are positioned in the tube, at a distance from each other, and these direct the passing of a ball (21). The tube has two T-couplings (9,10), one at each end. The free end of each T-coupling is sealed so that the ball cannot pass through but the liquid can escape through the central arm of the coupling. The time taken for the ball to traverse the space between the two sensors is measured. A pump ensures that liquid flows upwards in the tube thus bringing the ball into contact with the stopper of the upper T-junction. The upward flow of liquid may be stopped without stopping the pump. This is achieved using an electro-valve in one of the pipe systems.
|
