A process for the use of omega -Aminocarboxylic acid amides of the formula <IMAGE> wherein R is an aliphatic hydrocarbon residue having 10 to 14 carbon atoms, R1 and R2 are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, methyl, -CH2-CH2OH, -CH2-CHOH-CH3 and -CH2-CHOH-CH2OH, and m and n are integers from 1 to 10, to prevent the growth of microorganisms including compositions of phosphonate sequestering agents and omega -aminocarboxylic acid amides for use in industrial water treatment.
