<p>A carriage return brake for an electric typewriter or similar machine has one part mounted on the carriage (8) and the other on the frame of the machine. The carriage mounted part is a piston (6) which together with its shaft (7), sliding guide sleeve (10) and the carriage housing (8) can comprise a one-part casting. This unit encircles a frame-fixed carriage guide rod (17) which carries the other brake part (12, 16). This has a clamp (16) holding a movement damping cylinder (2) on the far end of the guide rod (17). The floor of this cylinder has a damping disc (3) made of elastic material penetrated by a venting hole.</p> |
