Surface condenser return-pass tube plate - has sections accommodating return bend assemblies designed to accelerate and/or decelerate fluid flow

Design prevents settling of solid particles in return pass tube plates due to turbulence following sudden changes in the direction of flow. Shell of the heat exchanger or surface condenser has fitted tubes terminating in tube plates to which flange of the return pass assembly is bolted. The assembly consists of sections covering together the entire cross sectional area of the shell. Two sections are designed as tapered casings terminating in two flanges respectively and connected by a return bend. Two more sections are tapered casings each fitted with flanged 90 degree elbow for fluid inlet and outlet. The tapered casings result in steady acceleration and subsequent deceleration of the fluid without the setting of solid particles.
