An articulated spreader draw roll for travelling strips, e.g. of paper or textile material, has a straight shaft (A) on which adjacent rolls are mounted and driven thereby. The rolls are adjustable w.r.t. shaft (A) in different surfaces of revolution. Pressure rolls acting eccentrically on the side of the two outermost rolls cause the rolls to take up an inclined position with respect to the shaft (A) of magnitude dependent on their position and decreasing towards the centre of the roll assembly. The rolls are pushed onto the shaft (A) on both sides of a fixed centrepiece on (A). Each roll is tiltably fixed to (A) by a shaft pin which is a press fit in a diametral bore in (A). Each roll consists of an inner supported on the ends of the shaft pin projecting from (A), and an outer ring fixed to the inner ring so as to be tiltable around rods perpendicular to the shaft pin. This outer surface of this outer ring forms the roll surface. The ring is provided with surfaces at positions situated at some distance within its periphery for lying against the adjoining roll or the fixed centrepiece, with an interposed slider ring. The arrangement avoids the tendency for rapid wear to occur and prevents jamming of the strip material between the rolls or the marking of the material e.g. by worn and sharp edges.
|
