<p>1470333 Workholders WARNER & SWASEY CO 18 April 1974 [6 June 1973] 17094/74 Heading B3W A workholder 18 for presenting a sheet workpiece 80 to a punch 34 includes a gripper 74 connected to a fixed member 106 by bendable means 116 which allow the gripper to move up and down with the workpiece during punching and stripping. The gripper comprises a pair of arms 86, (84), Fig. 2 (not shown), carrying a lower jaw 96 and arranged one each side of an upper arm 88 carrying a jaw 94. The arm 88 is pivoted to arms (84), 86 at 90 and is movable about the pivot 90 by a pneumatic actuator 76. The workholder is mounted on a slide 64 movable axially of a shaft 66 by a drive screw (not shown). A carriage 72 carrying the slide and shaft is movable along guides 73 by a screw 70. The arms (84), 86 are connected to the member 106 which is fixed to the slide 64 by portions 116 of reduced vertical thickness which allow the arms to bend in a vertical plane, The member 106 and the arms (84), 86 may be cast integrally and the portions 116 reduced by machining. To prevent permanent or plastic deformation of the portions 116, a pin 146 on each arm engages in a slot 148 in a respective guard 150 fixed to the member 106 at 166. An upper section 164, of each guard protects the upper surface of the portions 116. The pin and slot device may be omitted, the forward edge 170 of the sections 164 acting as a stop for upward movement of the arm. Two workholders 18, 20 may be mounted on the slide 64 and be associated with a roller table 52 and fixed side tables 48, 50 in a turret press 10.</p> |
