The barrel for small firearms is designed for reducing the bullet velocity. This barrel is used for firing or standard ammunition. The bullet velocity is reduced so that the noise of the bullet caused by its supersonic velocity vanishes. Standard ammunition can also be fired at normal performance. The barrel (1) has transverse bores for diverting firing gases. These holes, however, can be masked by a sleeve (5) pulled over the barrel axially. This sleeve is provided with gas diverting channels. The transverse hole in the barrel are arranged close to the cartridge chamber and the muzzle region. The sleeve has radial diverting channels connection to axial channels (7) within the sleeve bore. The sleeve is also rotated by an external lever (6) for aligning gas diverting holes.
