<p>1473486 Electrolytic cell installation and inter-connection HOOKER CHEMICALS & PLASTICS CORP 2 Oct 1975 [9 Oct 1974] 40369/75 Heading C7B A plurality of electrolytic cells is arranged in at least one row connected electrically in series, the ratio of cell length, perpendicular to the row, to width, parallel to the row, being at least 2:1 and the cells having anode and cathode lead-ins disposed along their lengths. At least one portable jumper switch is arranged beneath a cell row movable along the centre line of the row, the switch being substantially the same length as the extent of cathode and anode lead-ins along the cells and having a plurality of connectors on its opposite sides and distributed evenly therelong corresponding with the cathode and anode lead-ins, whereby a cell may be by-passed without interrupting the other cells, with the by-pass current through the switch being substantially rectilinear viewed from the top of the cell now. As described, the cells may be mounted on raised supports enabling switch access from below, and allowing product and service pipework, storage tanks and crossover busbars to be located below the cells, with the operators using gangways supported by the cell support. The cell lead-ins may have separate areas for inter-cell and switch contact, and the switch and cells may each have a number of connectors corresponding to one for each cell electrode. The large length: width ratio allows a shorter overall current path for a given production capacity and power consumption.
