The surge diverter comprises a stack of resistance elements (2, 2a, 3b, etc.) having a negative temperature coefficient. They are assembled between fins (3) on a central bolt (37) and clamped under pressure. The fins serve to dissipate heat and prevent a too rapid rise in temperature when the diverter is active. The construction is as in 2425814. To guard against the effects of fluctuating ambient temperature, and in particular against a large drop in temperature giving an unacceptably high resistance, the fins (3) are provided with a large diameter hole so that an air pocket (30, 31, etc) is formed between the discs which covers approximately 85% of the disc area. Where very low temperatures may be expected a heating element (38) may be installed in the bolt (37) bore and connected to a temperature control circuit.
|
