The arrangement of sensors for checking the positions of the oblique edges to the bag end closures employed in the parent Specification itself a Patent of Addition to Specification 1,122,788, is simplified to comprise a single row RR of four sensors 208-211 and a pair of control sensors 212, 213 arranged symmetrically thereabout in the medial plane EE. Bags with incorrectly formed end closures (see Fig. 2) have leading 200-203 (and/or trailing 204-207) oblique edges which co-operate with their respective photo-electric cells 208-211 before (or after) the leading 169 (and/or trailing 169<SP>1</SP>) longitudinal bag edge co-operates with the front photo-electric cell 212 (or rear photo-electric cell 213) so that a fault impulse may be stored and subsequently transmitted by a circuit (Fig. 3) incorporating a relay (57) and timing device (64, 67) to operate a bag deflector 25. |
