A needle disposal system has a blood collection holder(s) (40,70) with an engaged blood collection needle (10) and a companion biohazard receptacle (30) for disposal of the needle after use. First, the blood collection needle (10) engaged to the holder(s) (40,70) is irreversibly positively locked upon insertion (Figure 8) into respective needle removal device(s) (35,50) of the biohazard receptacle (30), thereby preventing withdrawal of the needle (10) from the biohazard receptacle (30).
