Coordinate diphosphine polymers for catalyst prepn. - by reacting alkaline diphosphine alcoholate and halogenated polymer in two stages

Coordinate diphosphine polymers useful as catalysts, e.g. in hydroformylation, carbonylation and carboxylation, and oligomerisation and hydrogenation of mono- and diolefines, are prepd. by (a) adding a soln. of (I) an alkaline diphosphine alcoholate to a suspension of (II) a halogenated polymer in (III) a liquid (b) reacting the mixt. to ambient temp. for 2-24 pref. 4-8 hrs., (c) completing the reaction at an elevated temp. up to the reflux temp. for 0.5-6 pref. 1-3 hrs., and (d) reacting the formed coordinate diphosphine polymer with a transition metal cpd. The catalyst is insoluble in reaction mixts., easily recovered from reaction mixts., has long catalytic life. high selectively; wide range of catalysts is obtainable.
