1507767 Seaming non-metallic sheet material TUDOR AB 9 Aug 1976 [15 Aug 1975] 33080/76 Heading B5K A device for welding together a cover and a vessel of thermoplastics material, e.g. to form an electric storage battery, comprises a welding tool consisting of two L-shaped heating checks 1, 2 movably disposed with reference to each other, the short side of one arm 10 of one cheek 1 being applied against the inner long side 12 of the other arm 11 of the other cheek 2 to form a rectangular frame. As shown, the cheeks 1, 2 are fixed to rails 3 movably mounted on holders 4, movement of the rails 3 being effected by hydraulic or pneumatic cylinders 5. Each holder 4 is mounted on a frame comprising a base 6 and columns 7 and may be movable along the columns 7. Each base 6 is movable in a direction parallel to either arm of both cheeks 1, 2. The device includes arrangements for holding the vessel and the cover, at least one of these arrangements being movable at right angles to the plane of the welding tool whereby, in operation, the vessel and the cover are pressed against the tool to heat the surfaces to be welded, the vessel and cover are separated from the tool which is then withdrawn, and the vessel and the cover are pressed together. |
