A flat bar knitting machine has two needle bars having needles supplied with yarn from supply packages mounted on an endless conveyor so that the packages advance along the needle beds as knitting progresses. Between the packages and the needle beds are provided rotating helical screws. Each yarn in the layers of yarn fed from the packages locates in and is guided by a thread of a screw to ensure that the yarn is guided to a needle accurately as the package from which the yarn is fed moves along the needle bed. The mechanism is simple and cheap to produce. The yarn is accurately guided to the needles.
