Automatic handling of workpieces - has object assessed for rejection or not by comparing scanned picture with reference standard

The identification process of workpieces operates according to shape or position. It is of flexible application and useful in automation of machine handling processes. At least one characteristic of the geometry of the object (contour, area, or projected area) is sensed and the scanned image obtained is compared with a reference picture extracted from a memory. On non-coincidence an alarm signal is raised. On agreement, a starting signal may be fed to a device for initiating furthe rprocessing or handling of the object.
