The ignition system has a discharge circuit for supplying a spark plug with the energy stored in a capacitor. The electric impedances of the discharge circuit are of such values that a critically damped discharge takes place between the electrodes. Preferably the circuit impedance to the spark plug is in conjunction to the impedance of the discharge path between the spark electrodes. Parallel to the electrodes and to the capacitor may be connected a trigger circuit, generating a pulse starting the discharge. The trigger pulse is generated when the capacitor voltage has attained a preset value. The trigger circuit may contain a pulse transformer and a voltage dependent switch.
|
