The consolidated surfacing for roads or paths, for wheeled traffic or pedestrians is made of concrete or natural stone with elastic joint gaps. The joint structure are retained on an elastic basis, with some elasticity for displacements in the plane of the slabs and elasticity for displacements at right angles to this. The elasticity is in calculated relationship to the coefficient of temp. induced expansion of the slab material, length of slabs, width of joint gaps, degree of shrinkage of slab material, max. temp. fall and permissible tensions. The join structure is form-locked to the material in the slabs, but separation can be easily effected if necessary.
