<p>The electromagnetic actuator has a moving core(14) extended to form an actuating rod(16). The core is mounted so that it slides in a coil(19) carried by a frame(18) shaped as a 'U' with the arms (20,22) enclosing the front faces(24,26) of the coil. At least one of the arms of the frame(18) have a slot running towards the base of the'U' to permit the coil and actuating rod to be fitted into the 'U' shape from the open side. The region of the slots in the 'U' arms is pressed to form an internal dish into which locking sleeves(30,32) fitted inside the coil former(24) are forced by the action of a non-magnetic spring(34) placed between them, the spring force exceeding the operating force of the electromagnetic.
