Additional data signals (ZDS) are transmitted in the same channel as the useful data signal(DS) in optical networks by converting the additional data signal (ZDS) into code sequences (CF,CF). Said code sequences are superimposed on the useful data (DS) with a lower amplitude. The additional data signal (ZDS) is recovered in the receiver by cross-correlation.
