<p>PURPOSE:To obtain a highly efficient packet exchange by abandoning packets having lower priority among the packets not processed by a CPU without notifying the CPU and, at the time of abandoning the packets having lower priority, abandoning the packets from the last received one. CONSTITUTION:Packets received from channels 1-7 are stored in process-waiting buffers 1-1-1 to 1-2-3 provided in priority stages through data lines 1-8-1 to 1-8-3 after their priority is discriminated at a receiving section 1-1. A packet processing section 1-3 fetches the received packets from the buffers through a data line 1-9 in the order of their priority and performs packet processing on the packets and the processed packets are stored in a transmission FIFO 1-4 through processed data line 1-10. The buffers from which packets are transmitted and which become vacant are registered in a buffer control section 1-5 as transmitted buffers by means of a transmitting section 1-18 through data lines 1-19 and 1-12. Therefore, a packet exchange having a high communication limit is obtained.</p> |
