The liq. phase of the ethylenically unsatd. hydrocarbons, in which the double bonds are displaced, is contacted with alumina at a sufficiently high temp. to decompose the iron carbonyls dissolved in the liq. phase, and deposit metallic iron on the alumina, the iron-contg. alumina is separated from the hydrocarbons, and the iron-contg. alumina is subjected to heat treatment at a temp. higher than that used for the deposition of the iron on the alumina. The treatment with alumina reduces the iron carbonyl content of the ethylenically unsatd. hydrocarbon below 0.2 ppm, and the treated hydrocarbon can be used in disproportionation reactions without reduction in catalyst activity. The iron-contg. alumina is effectively regenerated by the heat treatment. |
