The safety device is fitted to an upright (1) of a power pylon where vertical and horizontal safety wires cross. The device is in the shape of a 'D', with a curved arc (10) attached to an upright of the power pylon. The arc has a slot over all its length to allow the vertical safety wire (5) to enter the 'D' from the side. The horizontal safety wire (6) passes through a hole (12) in the pylon upright and through the slot. The operator's safety line (5) is attached to the safety wire by a clip (13). The upper part of the arc slot is wider to allow the clip to pass through, while the lower part has the slot wide enough only for the safety wire. If there is an error as the operator changes between the vertical and horizontal safety wires, the clip will be trapped inside the arc, preventing the operator falling.
