High impact polymers are made by interpolymerizing a mixture comprising 99 to 80 parts by weight of a vinyl aromatic compound with from 1 to 20 parts by weight of a block copolymer which comprises at least one block of polymerized vinyl aromatic compound and at least one block of polymerized conjugated diene, the interpolymerization being carried out at 60 DEG to 125 DEG C. until 10 to 40% by weight of the vinyl aromatic compound is polymerized and thereafter continuing polymerization at a higher temperature of 110 DEG to 225 DEG C. until the conversion of monomer into polymer is substantially complete. The examples describe polymerizing styrene with polystyrene-polybutadiene and polystyrene-polybutadiene-polystyrene block copolymers.
