PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase operability by making it less complex for deletion of patterns, and making it possible to select an area to be deleted in a freehand fashion. SOLUTION: A system for editing patterns through freehand inputs includes freehand input means 3, 4, 5 for inputting an area to be edited; a pattern determining means 1 for determining whether the start point and the end pint of a pattern to be edited are the same; a pattern dividing/changing process means 1 for dividing or changing the pattern upon determining whether or not division is to be carried out, according to the result of determination on the pattern and the area to be edited; a drawing coordinates calculation means 1 for calculating drawing coordinates, by determining whether a reference point for drawing the pattern has been set, determining the kind of the reference point if it has been set, and determining whether the area to be edited is within a predetermined range from the reference point; and a drawing means 1 for drawing and updating the pattern, on the basis of the drawing coordinates calculated.
