[Also in Division B1] Acrylic and methacrylic acids are prepared by the oxidation at elevated temperature in the vapour phase, acrolein or methacrolein or substances which under the reaction conditions give rise to acrolein or methacrolein with molecular oxygen over an oxide catalyst composition containing not more than 50% antimony, less than 30% molybdenum and less than 40% of one or more of the polyvalent metals, tungsten, bismuth, tin, iron, nickel and cerium. Iron and/or nickel may also be present in the oxide composition which may be supported e.g. on alumina, pumice and silica. Examples describe the use of catalyst compositions containing antimony, molybdenum and nickel; tin and nickel; iron; and tin and iron. |
