PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for isomerizing a cycloalkane into an isomerized alkylcycloalkane by the catalytic reaction of the cycloalkane (or a hydrocarbon containing the cycloalkane) with hydrogen in the presence of a specific catalyst, and also to provide a catalyst for the above reaction. SOLUTION: This method for isomerizing a cycloalkane (or a hydrocarbon containing a cycloalkane) is to conduct the catalytic reaction of the cycloalkane (or a hydrocarbon containing the cycloalkane) with hydrogen under a pressurized condition in the presence of a catalyst where a group VIII metal catalyst is supported with a solid acid catalyst selected from the group consisting of tungsten zirconia and a sulfate zirconia.
