[Also in Division F2] A rotary valve comprises a central preformed flow tube 43, diametrically opposite sealing plates 46, 47, and diametrically opposite trunnion plates 44, 45 rectangularly arranged about the tube in tangential abutment therewith, arcuate ribs extending transversely between the sealing plates being welded to the tube and the trunnion plates. Substantially triangular ribs 53 are also welded to the trunnion and sealing plates after the tube has been temporarily removed during assembly for finish welding of the plates to the ribs. After reinsertion, the tube is welded at 71 to the ribs and the assembly chucked on centres 21, 34 so that all of the surfaces which pass over seating rings 76 may be machined to a spherical shape. In operation, the assembly is rotated by an hydraulic motor mounted on a flange 14 and rotating a stem 15 keyed to a trunnion 16 on the valve element by pins 17, an oppositely-disposed trunnion bearing 27 being supported by an adjustable thrust plate 21. Retaining rings 63 hold resilient sealing rings 61 against shoulders 62 on the sealing plates which have welded ribs 75 to increase their resistance to high pressure; removal of a bleed plug 90 permits the seals to be tested while the valve is in service.
