A bench vice (1) comprises a fixed jaw (2) and a moveable jaw (3), both sliding on a slide bar (4). The jaws are made of plastics material and are supported against pressures imposed by the slide (4) by pins (6 to 9) retained in the jaws. One of the pins (8, 9) on the fixed jaw is knurled to provide a jamming function against the slide. The moveable jaw has a knob (25) screwed onto a block (5) fixed on the slide (4), so that rotation of the knob advances the moveable jaw along the slide, or releases it. Structural rigidity is provided by a convoluted wall (2a',3a'/60a,b/64a,b/68a,b) and supporting qussets (62a,b/66a,b). A pocket (13) is provided for storage of accessories or the like. |
