1,230,012. Resiliently mounted seats. GREER HYDRAULICS Inc. 29 March, 1968 [5 June, 1967], No. 15337/68. Headings A4J and A4U. In a partially resilient suspension for a vehicle seat having an accumulator 66, with a gas filled bladder 68, in communication with the flotation chamber B of a hydraulic system for adjusting the threshold of the resiliency of the suspension, an independent hydraulic ram 12, 18 is provided for adjusting the height of the seat. In use valve 73 is opened to fill chamber B with oil (so that piston 25 bottoms on plate (36)) and to compress the fixed amount of gas in bladder 68 to the desired extent. Piston 25 is not displaced when the static weight of the occupant is applied to the seat, but it responds to vertical shock loads above a threshold value, determined by the compression of the gas in bladder 68. An apertured disc (52, Figs. 2 and 3, not shown) is movable downwardly into a flowconstricting position, to damp out rapid upward accelerations. Cylinder 12 is pivotally supported at 16, and its inclination can be varied by ram 92. |
