PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an activated carbon having a large specific surface area from a chitinous matter as a raw material and its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: The activated carbon is manufactured by the carbonization after the impregnation of the chitinous matter with an alkali metal compound.
