1,196,227. Pressure lids. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. 14 Nov., 1968 [11 Dec., 1967], No. 54129/68. Heading F2P. [Also in Division E2] A sealed plug for taking a rotary drive through the wall 3 of a pressure vessel is secured in position by a series of radially movable sectorshaped bolts 57 engaging under shoulders 61 on the vessel wall and moved by means of a wormgear 53. Pins 55 standing up from the sectors are constrained by radial slots 69 in collar 63 to radial motion only, but are moved by oblique cam-slots 67 in the worm-driven wheel 51. The plug and shaft are sealed in a conventional manner, except that a seal 39 beneath the plughead is axially compressed on outward movement of the sectors under the shoulders 61. As shown in Fig. 1 the motor-drive to the shaft has been replaced by a lifting cap 77. It is described how a sealed bell (Fig. 3, not shown) may be used to replace the drive unit without reduction of pressure in the vessel. |
