Separation of paraffins from a crude petrol oil mixture is achieved by distillation of the mixture and separation of the distillate with a boiling range up to the paraffin with the largest number of C atoms required. The distillate is diluted and cooled to a temp at which the constituent with the least number of C atoms separates out as a solid. The separated solids is transformed into a paste with solvent which is removed and recycled for dilution. Normal paraffins of 7-35C atoms are separated and are used in plasticisers, biodegradable detergents and as chemical intermediates.
