PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact and thin zoom lens having high optical performance, which is suitable for a digital camera. SOLUTION: In the zoom lens where a 1st lens group having negative refractive power is moved to an image surface side, reversed to an object side halfway and then moved, and also a 2nd lens group having positive refractive power is moved to the object side so as to vary power from a wide angle end to a telephoto end, the 1st lens group or the 2nd lens group includes at least one plastic lens. The zoom lens is formed so that the thickness DG1 of the 1st lens group on an optical axis, the thickness DG2 of the 2nd lens group on the optical axis, the focal distance (fw) of a lens system from the 1st lens group to an image surface at the wide angle end, the focal distance fG1 of the 1st lens group and the focal distance fG2 of the 2nd lens group may satisfy conditional expressions (1) 0.90≤(DG1+DG2)/fw≤2.30 and (2) 0.5≤¾fG1¾/fG2≤1.6. Thus, the zoom lens is made small in size, thin, inexpensive, and light in weight while its aberration is satisfactorily corrected. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
