A medicament for treating diabetes contains zinc-chelates of alpha-aminodicarboxylic acids (esp. zinc aspartate) and/or of phosphoric acid-mono-(2-aminoethyl ester) (zinc-EAP). - The chelates lower blood sugar by up to 35%, are well tolerated and suitable for prolonged medication. - Zinc-EAP, MW=331.498, a white crystalline substance without specific taste, is insol. in hot or cold water and usual solvents, but unstable to strong alkali, acids, oxidants and reducing agents.
